MP Nihan have said that those who were arrested under state of emergency will not be freed even if state of emergency is over.
The state of emergency will end on this Thursday and government previously stated that they do not want to extend the state of emergency. The opposition says that those who were arrested under state of emergency should be freed as soon as the state of emergency ends.
In a press conference held by the opposition, Nihaan said that it is a mistake to think that the government will free those who were arrested during the state of emergency once the state of emergency ends. He said that even if it ends, those who tried to bring a coup will be held responsible and their cases will g o on.
The government announced a state of emergency on 5th February and arrested many people. Prominent people arrested includes former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed, Justice Ali Hameed, former CP Areef, MP Abdullah Riyaz, MP Abdullah Sinan, MP Ilham Ahmed, MP Mahloof and many more.
