Police officers who take detainees to the hospital have their faces covered now. The police officers who took Faaris Maumoon to IGMH for an x-ray today had their faces covered.

Faaris had to take an x-ray because he was roughly moved by the police yesterday in his cell. Police also refused to allow Faaris to include that in his statement. It has been years since Maldivian Police stopped the culture of torture in prisons. Under the current constitution it is up to the police to find evidence against the accused and it cannot be in form of a statement obtained from the accused through coercion.

Faaris was manhandled after he refused to be interviewed by the police without a lawyer.
