While the state of emergency ended 31 out of 45 opposition MPs including parliament majority leader are in jail, charged or in trial : Shahid
Former speaker of the parliament, Abdullah Shahid have said that while the government lifted the state of emergency 31 out of 45 opposition MPs including the parliament majority leader are in jail, charged or in trial.

In addition he said that Chief Justice and former president Maumoon are also in jail.

Meanwhile, the PG leader of JP, Abdullah Riyaz is also in detention.

It is not known whether any country in the world has jailed so many parliament members and high profile politicians at the same time. So this will be another record for Maldives.

Shahid noted that some members’ trial has also begun now.
