A senior delegation of the UN is in the Maldives to assist to resolve the political crisis in the Maldives. Meanwhile, the foreign minister of Maldives, Dr.Asim is in New York meeting with senior officials of UN.
The UN team will meet various stakeholders to discuss the current situation of Maldives. The UN office in Maldives stated that the UN delegation will be in the Maldives for three days and will meet government officials, opposition and civil society.
The opposition parties say that they will talk with the government only if UN acts as a mediator and when the government implements the Supreme Court verdict of 1st February. However the government has refused to fulfil these conditions.
