No Hope for a free and fair election be held in Maldives this year .

The presidential elections will be held this year in Maldives. However, many people are pessimistic about it. People question whether it will be free and fair.
An election to be considered free and fair, many things should be considered. The process of counting the ballots and casting votes are not the only factors. Many other related factors should also be considered. These factors should be fair and free as well.

Last year local council elections were held in Maldives. There were cases of some parties campaigning after the official period for campaigns was over. It was not done in secret; it happened in front of police head quarters as well. So no further evidence is needed for this. At the time, relevant institutions stated that they will take action. However till today no one knows if any action was ever taken and this is worrying.


There will always be people who commit crimes. That is why there is a penal code which states the punishments for crimes. Allowing criminals to act with impunity is a bigger crime, because it will encourage them to commit crimes.
