The Supreme Court ruling of 1st February was constitutional: Supreme Court
Hearings of the case filed by the state to revoke the Supreme Court ruling ordering to reinstate the 12 MPs who were previously unseated by the Elections Commission has begun.

Speaking at the hearing the state prosecutor Maasha Lutfy stated that the verdict of 1st February was issued by the Chief Justice and Justice Ali Hameed after accepting bribes from the opposition and their intention was to overthrow the government. She also said that these two judges deceived the other judges of the Supreme court to issue the verdict. She said that hence the ruling of 1st February was unconstitutional and hence requested to declare it as unconstitutional.

However the Supreme Court bench did not accept this motion by Maasha, and said that a judge being suspected of a crime is not a reason to revoke a ruling by the judge. Justice Ahmed Abdullah Didi said that since the allegations are against specific judges and hence it can be applied only on the individual judges.

He said that if a verdict is wrong, then it can be reviewed and revoked but it is not done based on the criminal allegations against a judge. He said that some parts of the 1st February verdict was annulled after reviewing it. He also said that the 1st February verdict was not unconstitutional. The bench of the Supreme Court did not make any remarks about the statements made by PG lawyer about Chief Justice and Justice Ali Hameed deceiving the Supreme Court justices.

Even though the opposition coalition requested to be part of this case, the court did not make any decisions regarding it. The bench also did not announce the date of the next hearing.
