Lawyers of Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed have said that he is being tortured and that he was detained unlawfully. In addition, they stated that he believes that he is being detained under unlawful procedures as well.
This was revealed in a statement issued on behalf of the Chief Justice today. The statement says that since he was changed to Maafushi Jail on March 22nd, he is being held in solitary confinement and that this was an act of torture according to anti-torture act. The statement further says that this is being done to torture him and it is an inhuman act.
The lawyers also called the government to consider the privileges given to the judges by the constitution and called to free Justice Abdullah Saeed immediately.
