Appeal hearings of Abdullah Riyaz’s case regarding the obstruction of justice charges has ended. Meanwhile the bench of the judges presiding over the case has been changed.
Riyaz was charged with obstruction of duty of a law enforcement officer after he refused to let police officers access his phone. Previously the case was presided over by Justice Abdullah Didi, Justice Abdul Raoof Ibrahim and Justice Ali Sameer. However, today’s hearing was held with Shujaau Usman and Abdulh Ghani on the bench instead of Abdul Rauoof and Sameer. Previous hearings were chaired by Abdullah Didi, while today’s hearing was chaired by Shujaau Usman.
While appeal hearings ended today, previous the Criminal Court exonerated Abdullah Riyaz.
In addition to this charge, Abdullah Riyaz is being charged with influencing a police officer, and terrorism for conspiring to overthrow the government. Criminal Court has ordered to detain Riyaz till the end of his trial.
