State Trading Organization has decreased price of sugar, flour, and rice.
Starting from tomorrow STO will sell a kilogram of sugar for 4 Rufiyaa. At the moment the price is 6.80 Rufiyaa. A kilogram of rice will be 3.98 Rufiyaa and before it was 6.76 Rufiyaa. A kilogram of flour will cost 2.98 Rufiyaa at before it was 5.26 Rufiyaa.
MD of STO Ahmed Shaheer said that these prices are lower than the price of 16th October 2016 even. He said that the government will spend 300 million Rufiyaa as subsidies per year to sell these items at this price.
He said that many people complained when prices were increased in 2016 but these changes were brought because the president paid close attention to this matter.
Even though STO is selling at this price, outlets within the atolls will have a different price. According to STO, that is because costs for shipping and other logistics are included in the price.
