Head of the department for respiratory diseases of IGMH Dr.Moosa said that most of the people who come for treatment to that department are active or passive smokers.
Speaking at the ceremony held to open the tobacco cessation clinic of IGMH, Dr.Moosa said that the prevalence rate of smoking is increasing in the Maldives at an alarming rate.
“Some of these people are smokers or people who used to smoke. Others are passive smokers. Some times tobacco is the primary cause of respiratory diseases. In other cases it makes you situation worse” said Dr.Moosa.
Dr.Moosa said that smoking endangers human life and that it is everyone’s individual responsibility to save others from this danger.
