Abdullah Kamaaludheen (AK) a former member of the special parliament which drafted the constitution have said that the article which states that the state religion is Islam was proposed as by the chair of the parliament and it was not drafted by the committee.
Speaking to Miadhu News, he said that the article was drafted and submitted to the floor by Qasim Ibrahim the speaker of the special parliament. He said that this was an extraordinary event and back then he didn’t know why he did it, but today it can be seen. He said that this will be written in the history of Maldives.
Abdullah Kamaaludheen tweeted saying that ensuring that Maldives remains as a 100% Muslim nation is a foremost objective of JP and that it is stated in the constitution of JP. In addition he said that the leader of JP and leadership of JP will never compromise the religion and sovereignty of Maldives.
