Lawyer of Siyad Qasim, Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed, DJA Administrator Hassan Saeed and MP Abdullah Riyaz have filed a compliant to HRCM stating that they are kept in isolation at Maaufushi Jail and that is against the anti-torture act.
Their lawyer sent 4 separate letters to Human Rights Commission of the Maldives stating that their detention is against the article 14 of anti-torture act. According to this article, solitary confinement is considered as torture.
According to the lawyer, these four individuals are kept in solitary confinement and the purpose of that is to weaken them psychologically. The lawyer requested HRCM to investigate Maldives Correctional Service as soon as possible.
Four of them are being detained until the end of their trials.
