Former First Lady Mariyam Saeed has passed away. She was married to former President Ibrahim Nasir.
She passed away yesterday in Colombo and she was aged 87. Mariyam Saeed had two children and both of them were killed.
Mariyam Saeed is the daughter of prominent Maldivian scholar Hussain Solaahuhdheen. Her siblings include Ibrahim Shihab, Adnaan Hussain and Fathimath Saeed.
Fathimath Saeed was married to former President Mohammed Ameen. Hence both sisters have married to two sitting presidents.
Mariyam Saeed was also a prominent poet and her poems are still famous in the Maldives.
