The government losing the majority of the parliament is not among the 5 cases which Islam allows to apply doctrine of necessity : Dr.Abdul Majeed
Former Islamic Minister Dr.Abdul Majeed Abdul Baary have said that the government losing the majority of the parliament is not among the 5 cases which Islam allows to apply the doctrine of necessity.

He made this statement while speaking at a rally held by the opposition parties at AA.Rashoo last night. He said that losing the parliament majority is not an instance where this doctrine can be applied. In addition he said that it is also not a reason for the government to be overthrown because Maldives has a presidential system.

He said that hence in principle the government should not even be worried even if they lose the majority of the parliament. In Islam the 5 cases where the doctrine of necessity can be applied are to save lives, to protect religion, to protect personal belonging, to protect the dignity and family of the people.

He said that in this case things that are impermissible in Islam can also be done out of necessity.

Dr.Majeed said that for example if someone is praying and he sees another person falling into the ocean, then that person can leave his prayer and save that person. In addition he said that it is permissible to eat food that are prohibited to survive.
