MP Mohammed Ameeth have expressed concern after President Yameen revealed why people in detention are not changed to house arrest by court.
“What authority does Yameen have to reveal why people in detention are not changed to house arrest ? We need to find out how he knows it. Police please take a statement from him and investigate this” tweeted Ameeth.
Speaking at a gathering held at Rumaalu2 last night, President Yameen said that people arrested after 1st February are not changed to house arrest because they themselves do not want to do it. He said that if these people refuse to hand over evidence related to the investigation then they will be found guilty by the court.
President Yameen said that one a person is charged with a crime, it is on the defendant to prove his innocence. He said that such people are charged to prevent people from repeating such crimes.
