State prosecutors have stated today at the court that former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef has been trying to overthrow the government since last year.
Areef has been charged with terrorism and his trial began today. The court has ordered to detain Areef till the end of his trial.
Speaking at today’s hearing PG lawyer Naushad said that Areef tried to over throw the government even last year while he was the CP. He said that Areef was planning for the verdict of 1st February in advance by bringing changes to the structure of the police and he planned to send out police officers loyal to him to the streets.
