Secretary General of JP Ahmed Sameer have said that close door hearings and providing witness statement in secret is not part of Islamic Shariah.
Sameer said that the people will lose trust if the hearings are closed. He said that the witnesses should also provide their statements in front of everyone and swear in the name of Allah. Secret testimonies were put into practice after witnesses started hesitating to testify in serious criminal cases. However people are worried today because this practice is being used as a political tool.
Furthermore lawyers say that it is a huge problem when witnesses testify in secret because the defendant do not know who they are and also that they are not sure whether they are under oath as prescribed in Islam.
