Former First Lady Nasreena Ibrahim has started visiting President Maumoon in jail to assist him due to his ill health.
According to sources Nasreena was in prison last Friday and yesterday as well to help Maumoon and to spend time with him.
According to him Maumoon is suffering from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo since last December. As a result of this condition, he faces problems such as fainting, headache, and vomiting. Doctors advised to keep someone with Maumoon at all times. According to sources a police officer is with Maumoon at all times. Maumoon’s family and lawyers have been requesting the government to change Maumoon to house arrest.
Speaking at his trial, Maumoon requested the judge to change him to house arrest considering his age and health. However, the judge ruled that there is no room to review Maumoon’s detention.
Maumoon was arrested on 5th February after announcing a state of emergency. He is being charged with bribing the judges to overthrow the government. The criminal court ordered to detain him until the end of his trial. In addition the state is also charging him with obstruction of justice.
