Chief Justice  Abdulla Saeed sentenced to jail for 4 months and 24 days by the Criminal Court.
Chief Justice of Maldives Abdulla Saeed has been sentenced to jail for 4 months and 24 days by the Criminal Court of Maldives, after remanding him for 3 months.

He was sentenced for obstructing state functioning by ordering SC staff staff to shut down the Government E-letter Management system (GEMS).

The decision was made this morning by Criminal Court Judge Ibrahim Ali.

Chief Justice was not given the opportunity to bring into court 4 witnesses out of the 5 requested by him. The witness testified in the court by stating that he was not aware that the GEMS system was down. In the meantime witnesses from the state has testified anonymously.

Lawyer and MP Ali Hussain stated that Justice was not served for Chief Justice and he also stated that in a country where the Chief Justice was denied a free and fair trial, it is impossible for other citizens to get justice.
