Tourism sector has developed to an unexpected level – we need Maldivians to work in this sector : MU Manik
Chairman of Universal Group Mohammed Umar Manik have said that tourism industry is the largest industry in Maldives and that more Maldivians have to be trained for this sector.

“Tourism of Maldives had developed to an extent we have not even imagined – we need Maldivians for this sector. Maldivians should train and work in this sector” said Manik

Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the second round of training programs conducted by Villa College in association with Universal Foundation to train people for the tourism sector, Manik said a similar training program was started in 1980 in Villingili but later it had to be stopped.

“Now this program is really perfect. No one else can conduct this program like Villa College is doing” said Manik.
He said that more people should be trained for the tourism sector and hence even if the current program selects only 25 trainees, they will increase the number of participants in future.

Mohammed Umar Manik said that it is not an easy thing to work in the tourism sector, but since it is the largest industry of Maldives, there should be Maldivians working in this sector. He said that the highest salaries are given in this sector and it is open to the whole world. He advised the students to work hard.

“I am very happy to see young people here. I monitored how you were studying last year. I was happy to know that everyone was working hard. We are opening a door for you and it is up to you to enter from this door and go forward” said Manik.
