Film for Change is a joint project by UNDP Maldives and Dhiraagu aimed at empowering young people to explore social issues through the medium of film. Based on the success from last year’s film for change programme, UNDP and Dhiraagu has decided to continue the project this year as well.
This project will provide young people with the necessary technical and creative skills on producing documentary-style short films with minimal equipment. It will be an alternative medium to stimulate dialogue on different issues with decision makers and other members of the community.
Dhiraagu stated that youth empowerment is a key focus area under their CSR programme and the company is proud of its involvement in the project which uses mobile phones and tablets as film-making tools, and which complements the company’s vision to use digital solutions as a means for youth empowerment and social development.
The programme consists of a training component and a post-production component with industry experts where trainees will produce 5 short films on a social issue in groups. The films will then be screened via social media and other public platforms.
• Similar to last year, the films that will be produced this year will also be inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS).
Who can participate in the programme?
All Maldivian youth above 18 are welcome to apply. However, priority will be given to applicants aged between 18 – 25. Young women are highly encouraged to apply.

Deadline for Applications: 17 June 2018
• UNDP will contact all shortlisted applicants for a brief interview.
• Based on the interview performance, 30 applicants will be selected by UNDP for the programme.
When is the training?
Kick-off: 21st June 2017
Training: 21st June – 01st July 2018 (during the week days)
Shooting and Post-production: 02nd – 15th July 2018
Screening: 31st July – 10th August 2018
