Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed and justice Ali Hameed has appealed the jail verdict on them for refusing to handover their mobile phones to Maldives Police Service. Criminal Court sentenced the two judges to 7 months in jail.
Meanwhile, both the judges have lost their seat after the Supreme Court upheld the rulings of the Criminal Court which sentenced them to over 1 year in jail for influencing lower court judges.
However, their lawyers say that the judges did not lose their positions because the decision was made by the court’s registrar and that it was not a judicial decision.
