Elections Commission of the Maldives have stated that the budget for the election has been set and that it will not be delayed.
Speaking to the press the president of the commission said that they will give 30 days to campaign for the election and that option will be given once candidates submit their name and when their names are finalized.
President of the elections commission said that the commission will not do anything unlawful and that they do not intend to bring ballot boxes in the atolls to Male’ to count.
He said that counting the votes on the spot is important to ensure the validity of the votes and hence the commission will not support such a move but will support it if such a law is passed. Furthermore, he said that the commission will not request the police to stop any unlawful activities conducted by the police, but there is nothing they can do to prevent the police from stopping unlawful activities.
He further said that the police informed him that they stop activities which disturbs the public. Shareef said that the election will be held on 23rd September as planned before.
