Speaking at a press conference held today, the President of the EC, Ahmed Shareef said that they are working with police, to solve any challenges that might arise during the elections.
Shareef said that the memorandum of understanding signed with the police today, is to get the help of the police to move ballot boxes from one location to the other.
Shareef said that even though the EC conducts the elections, they do not have the authority to take actions if something happens and hence they have to get help from other relevant state authorities in case something happens. “That is why we get help from other institutions” said Shareef.
Election Commission of the Maldives have stated that this year’s election will be challenging.
