Developing the construction industry is one of the biggest aim of STO : Shaheer
Managing Director of STO, Ahmed Shaheer said that the construction industry is part of national development and hence one of the biggest aim of STO is to develop the construction industry.

Speaking at the ceremony held to launch the power mix plant at STO, Shaheer said that the construction work of the 10 story buildings in Male’ began 20 years ago.

“The biggest challenge at the time was not getting good quality cement and the high price of it. To solve that problem we partnered with Lafarge and started importing cement to Maldives. Once that happened, quality cement were available at a 30% cheap rate” said Shaheer.

Shaheer said that there was also difficulty in getting roofing sheets and at that time roofing sheets were imported for each project. However, he said that when STO started manufacturing roofing sheets with the help of a foreign company, this problem was solved as well.

In addition Shaheer said that in 2015 STO started preparing ready mix to solve the problem of congestion in Male’.

“Maldives is developing at a fast speed. A new city is being developed at Hulhumale’ as well. This is the result of strategic planning” said Shaheer.

Shaheer also said that they already have huge orders for the ready mix plant in Hulhumale and they have imported supply vehicles as well.

Furthermore, he said that the work of cement packing and manufacturing of roofing sheets began while President Yameen was the chairman of STO. He further said that these new services such as ready-mix plant began during this administration. Shaheer credited President Yameen for all these developments.
