MD of STO Ahmed Shaheer have said that STO has the most number of accountacts among Maldivian companies and that they will increase opportunities for Maldivians.
He made this statement regarding a question asked by Miadhu News after the speech gave by Shaheer at the inauguration ceremony of Maldives Accountants Forum.
Shaheer said that it has been 200 years since countries like Sri Lanka started training accountants, but this field was introduced in Maldives quite recently. “It has been just 50 years since Maldives started training accountants and we introduced high level courses fairly recently” said Shaheer.
Shaheer said that Maldivians have achieved a lot within a short period of time and that there are professional chartered accountants in Maldives. He said that are Maldivian accounting companies and that these companies are progressing fast despite many challenges.
He said that Maldives has achieved a lot in the field of accounting in the past 20 years and said that there should be a mechanism to give legal recognition to Maldivian accounting firms. He said that accountants are very important because various new industries are being developed in the country.
Shaheer said that there are equal opportunities for both genders in this field and that the staffs of STO are proving that. “Most important information about the company is provided by them because the companies business plans can only be made based on the accounts” said Shaheer.
Speaking at the ceremony Auditor General Ziyath said that the government will remove the barriers faced by accounting firms and promised to submit a bill to the parliament.
At the moment the accounting sector of Maldives is controlled by foreign firms.
