Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives, Dr.Shaheem Ali Saeed has been appointed as the running mate of President Yameen in the upcoming presidential elections.
President Yameen informed of his decision to appoint Dr.Shaheem in a council meeting of PPM held tonight.
Dr.Shaheem is an Islamic Scholar and he was appointed as a state minister at Ministry of Islamic Affairs in 2008. He resigned from MDP government due to various challenges he faced as a minister. After that he became the Islamic Minister at Dr.Waheed’s administration. Dr.Shaheem was also the Islamic Minister of the current administration. However he later resigned due to clashes between Adhalath Party and the government.
After that Dr.Shaheem was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of IUM. Later he was appointed as the chancellor.
Dr.Shaheem is a Hafiz and studied Islamic Shariah. He studied at Islamic University of Medina and Islamic University of Malaysia.
Dr.Shaheem is well known for his services to the nation in the field of spreading religious awareness and upholding the religion. Even while he was the Islamic Minister he expressed his views against some of the decisions of the government which contradicts the values of Islam.
