Maldives Center For Islamic Finance MCIF, a hundred percent government owned company formed by President Yameen Abdul Gayoom for strategizing Maldives as the hub for Islamic finance in South Asia is set to launch its first magazine “Laaba” this year. The Magazine will offer to be a central point of information, knowledge and collaboration for South Asia.
The main objective of the magazine according to the Managing Director of MCIF, Mr Ibrahim Didi is to bring the industry players together by offering topical and timely information to readers not only about the domestic and regional Islamic finance market, but the global issues as well. Laaba is an attempt to create a platform for dialogue, collaboration and exchange of ideas as Maldives through MCIF which is the gateway to rest of the region to develop and sustain Islamic finance.
The first issue of “Laaba” has been contributed by global icons of Islamic finance such as Abayomi A. Alawode, Lead Financial Sector Specialist & Head of Islamic Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation Practice, East Asia and the Pacific Region of the World Bank; Abdulla Mohammed Al Awar; Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (DIEDC); Daud Vicary Abdullah, Managing Director of DVA Consulting and Islamic Finance Advisory; Professor Dr Azmi Omar, President & Chief Executive Officer of INCEIF; Maya Marissa Malek, Managing Director of Amanie Advisors LLC, Dubai UAE; Tallat Hussain, Environmental Counsel of White & Case LLP; Francine Pickup, Deputy Country Director of UNDP Indonesia; Zainulbahar Noor, Vice Chairman of Baznas Indonesia; Kimberly Gire, Founder of Global Women Leaders; and Dr. Sami Al-Suwailem, Head of Product Development of Islamic Research and Training Institute, Islamic Development Bank Group. Domestic market perspectives have been contributed by the key industry leading figures, Harith Harun, Managing Director of Maldives Islamic Bank; Hareez Sulaiman, Managing Director of Amana Takaful Maldives and Nadiya Hassan, Chief Executive Officer of Capital Market Development Authority.
It is anticipated that the launch of “Laaba” magazine will positively impact the stakeholders to contribute via dissemination of knowledge and sharing of ideas to develop Islamic finance in South Asia. The magazine will be launched at MNU at International Halal Management conference held with MNU & Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia with MCIF on 17th July.
