Elections Commission have said that the application period to submit applications to contest in the presidential elections will begin on 23rd July.
Speaking to the press, the president of the commission, Ahmed shareef said that the application period will begin on 23rd July and the deadline is 4th August. Shareef said that they brought these changes because the current presidential term began on 17th November.
According to the constitution the presidential term will begin on 11th November, however this term started on 17th November due to a Supreme Court verdict.
In addition Shareef said that the re-registration process will begin on 17th July and the deadline will be 11th August. Shareef also stressed on the importance of all candidates getting equal opportunity to campaign.
