MACL has revealed that the new runway of Velana International Airport will be opened on 30th August. The China-Maldives Friendship bridge is also expected to be officially opened on this date.
The spokesperson of MACL, Hassan Areef said that the work of the runway is goin as scheduled. “ According to the schedule, the work of the runway will be completed by the end of August, and test flights will begin on September” said Hassan Areef.
Once the second runway is open, the largest airplanes in the world will be able to land at Velana International Airport.
Both the bridge and the runway are developed by Chinese companies.
