Mariya Didi the spokesperson of President-elect Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, have called to investigate the illegal announcement of state of emergency by President Yameen in February. Mariya said that the state of emergency announced after the 1st February court verdict was illegal.
Speaking at a press conference held today, Mariya said that Ibu’s government will investigate only after assuming office but the relevant institutions in the current government can do it as well.
Speaking at the extra ordinary congress held by PPM, President Yameen said that they had to announce a state of emergency because there was no other way to arrest the Supreme Court judges.
A legal expert said that, the law does not allow the President to use that power just to arrest someone and if someone needs to be arrested the president should follow the law. In addition Mariya said that MP Abdullah Shahid will represent Ibrahim Mohammed Solih in the transition period.
