Former Chief Justice Ahmed Faaiz Hussein has expressed support for the decision made by the Election Commission regarding the 12 parliament members who were previously disqualified by the Elections Commission.
The EC decided yesterday that the members did not lose their seats yet and it will be the Supreme Court which makes the final decision. Faaiz posted on Facebook yesterday saying that there are many reasons why he thinks the EC’s decision is the right decision. He said that any decision made regarding the seats of the parliament members outside the scope of article 74 of the constitution, will be an administrative act and hence a legal remedy will be required.
In addition Faiz said that only the Supreme Court has the final say regarding the matter, and that the previous temporary order requests relevant authorities to consider them as parliament members until the court makes a decision.
