Supreme Court reinstates 4 MPs who were previously disqualified by the EC
Supreme Court of the Maldives has reinstated four parliament members who were previously disqualified by the Elections Commission for floor crossing.

The four MPs are, MP Waheed the MP for Thulusdhoo, MP Ameeth, the MP for Maduvvari, MP Latheef the MP for Dhihdhoo and MP Saud the MP for Villingili.

The hearings of the four MPs were held separately. Issuing the verdict, the judges declared that the MPs does not fit into the criteria set by the newly passed anti-defection legislation and has they have been reinstated.

In addition to these 4 MPs there are 8 MPs who were declared disqualified by the Elections Commission. The 8 members have also filed cases at the Supreme Court, asking to make a decision regarding the validity of their parliament membership.
