MP Mariya Didi have said that as long as President Yameen has absolute powers of the state, the judges will be in fear.
She said that because of how Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed were treated after the 1st February verdict of the Supreme Court.
Mariya said that the 2 judges were arrested for allegedly accepting bribes, but they were jailed for something else. She said that it is evident that this was orchestrated by President Yameen himself based on the statements made by himself on several occasions.
“Since the judges are humans and as long as President Yameen is the head of security services, I believe the judges will be in fear. No matter how just their judgement is, if they think that the president will be unhappy about it, I believe that they will wonder if their fate will be same as the fate of the judges on 5th February” said Mariya.
Meanwhile President Yameen have said that the state of emergency was announced on 5th February not because the country was in an emergency but to find a way to arrest the two justices of the Supreme Court. Hence this proves that he abused his authority.
