Many people are rejoicing as President Yameen’s oppressiveness towards Qasim Ibrahim has ended. Qasim Ibrahim is known as the “father of the poor” in Maldives. He is also the founder of Jumhoory Party and the founder of Villa Foundation.
People around the country are congratulating Qasim Ibrahim and even the international community has congratulated him today. Qasim is seen as the “father of the poor” for various reasons. Back when Maldives did not have universal healthcare, Qasim helped everyone in his personal capacity. He has been helping people since 1980 irrespective of their political views. He helped people to get healthcare, higher education and invested in the development of many islands. Even now he helps the people in various ways.
President Yameen was intimidating Qasim’s businesses and was taking action against Villa Group unlawfully. Those things ended when the Supreme Court declared that those actions were unjust. Even ACC ruled that none of the cases against Villa Group had any legal basis.
Even the High Court has acquitted Qasim Ibrahim today. Hence today, Qasim Ibrahim came out of the High Court as a free man who is free from President Yameen’s oppressiveness.
