The opposition coalition has decided to elect leader of Jumhoory Party, Qasim Ibrahim as the next speaker of the parliament.
In a meeting held by the joint parliamentary group of the opposition at JP HQ Kunooz, the President-elect Ibrahim Mohammed Solih said that in this situation the speaker of the parliament, Maseeh should resign or else they will try to impeach him.
President-elect Solih said that tonight they decided to elect Qasim Ibrahim as the next speaker of the parliament. He said that the opposition coalition is also planning to submit a motion to repeal the anti-defamation law and that they believe that it will be on the agenda of the next session of the parliament. He said that the PG group will also support the resolution passed to free President Nasheed.
Furthermore he said that the deputy speaker of the parliament is ready to preside over the hearings of the parliament and that he hopes three session of the parliament are held every week.
“The deputy speaker is ready to conduct the parliament in a democratic manner” said President-elect Solih. He said that till 11th November he will remain as the MP for Hinnavaru constituency and that it will be an honor to perform the duty entrusted by the people.
He said that hence, he will be taking part in the parliament sessions. “I will take part in parliament sessions, committee meetings and vote as well” said the President-elect.
