The council of Jumhoory Party has elected Qasim Ibrahim as the leader of the party. The 61 members who took part in the council meeting tonight, unanimously decided to elect Qasim as the leader.
Qasim said that JP is a popular party among the people since inception and that the past three administration won the election with the support of JP. He said that JP has the most number of academics and hence everyone should work together to promote the party. He thanked the council members of the party for their trust in him and promised to sustain that trust.
Qasim said that the party faced various challenges in the past few months and he had to stay out of the country as a result. He said that despite these challenges, the party continued to function with the assistance of many people.
He thanked the deputy PG leader of JP, Abdullah Riyaz for his work in administering the party. “Because of that he had to stay in jail for more than 6 months. Staying in a 6 by 8 feet jail cell is a great injustice” said Qasim.
Qasim further said that, even though council member of JP Aishath Nahula is his wife, he should thank her for the exemplary work done by her. “After leaving 5 children, she traveled around the country and met many people” said Qasim.
