Former President Maumoon have said that India played an important role in restoring democracy in the Maldives.
Speaking to Press Trust of India, from Malaysia President Maumoon said that India played an important role in restoring democracy in the Maldives and India worked with others to ensure that democratic principles are upheld in Maldives.
President Maumoon said that, after the events of February this year, India played a major role in pressuring the government of President Yameen. In addition he said that the incoming government will address the concerns of India and will try to strengthen the relations between the two countries.
President Maumoon criticized the government of President Yameen in the interview. Speaking about President Yameen’s government’s relations with China he said that he is worried about the rising debt to China and it should be reviewed.
He further said that he is sure that the government of China will respect any decisions made by the people of Maldives.
