JP leader Qasim Ibrahim has congratulated the 12 parliament members who were reinstated by the Supreme Court.
Qasim said that these 12 members and other parliament members who were jailed made huge sacrifices for the country. “Even if we consider Islamic principles, staying on the righteous path in front of a ruler is the highest level of Jihad. That is for sure. Those members were deprived of their rights because they were on the right path and because they loved justice. They faced it with great determination. This will be written in golden letters in the history of Maldives” said Qasim Ibrahim.
Qasim thanked the Supreme Court for upholding the rights of the parliament members even though it was done after great delays.
The Supreme Court verdict shows that the 12 members were never disqualified, and it was done in contrary to the constitution of the Maldives. Some parliament members were forcibly removed from the parliament premises and some were even jailed. President Yameen also publicly admitted that he was behind all of that.
