President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem have taken the oath of office today.
The ceremony was held at Galolhu Stadium today and they took the oath in front of Chief Justice Ahmed Abdullah Didi.
The parliament session which was convened for the ceremony was chaired by Qasim Ibrahim and he said that 66 parliament members took part in the session.
Senior officials from many countries took part in today’s ceremony. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is the most senior official from a foreign country who took part in the event. They were welcomed at the stadium by Speaker Qasim Ibrahim.
More than 11,000 people took part in today’s event and all former presidents of the Maldives except President Yameen took part in the event. Cabinet members of the outgoing administration were also present during the ceremony.
This is the first time a presidential inauguration ceremony was held in an open area like this and a record number of people took part in the event.
