5th MIBFIC to discuss the Financial Inclusion and Opportunities for the Maldivian IBF Industry

The 5th Maldives Islamic Banking & Finance Industry Conference (MIBFIC) will be held on 27th November 2018 at the Jen Hotel in the Maldives.  The Conference is organised by UTO EduConsult Sri Lanka, supported by various entities such as the Maldives Islamic Bank and Adl Capital, Sri Lanka. Other key partners include Amana Takaful Maldives, Ayady Takaful, Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), Women On Boards (WOB), Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance (MCIF) and KPMG Maldives.

The Republic of Maldives will enter a new era, following the recently concluded elections. The country, with a burgeoning reputation in the world of Islamic Finance and placed in a unique position in this regard, given its 100% Muslim population, could play a significant role, at least in South Asia, host to almost a third of the Muslims in the world.

The Conference reaches its own milestone – the 5th Anniversary. The eminent personalities, not just from the Maldives but also from overseas, will deliberate on a variety of contemporary topics germane to the industry, which stands at a critical juncture on many fronts. As suggested by the theme of the event “Financial Inclusion and Opportunities for the Maldivian IBF Industry”, delegates will especially focus on aspects such as Financial Inclusion, especially with the use of Fintech, whilst also exploring the opportunities that await a country with tremendous potential. Speakers are expected from various corners of the world, including Europe, Africa and Sri Lanka who will join their peers from Maldives and elsewhere in South Asia in a day that promises to address a diversity of areas. The Conference Session will cover the Future Outlook for Islamic Finance Industry, the International debt markets and Fintech. A session hosted by FORUS & JAAG from South Africa titled “Blockchain and Digital Technology bring IBF and Ethical Finance products to the mainstream” will enlighten the delegates on Blockchain and Crypto currencies and how the IBF deployed through this technology will enable building decentralized local economies in previously financially excluded communities.
