Economic Development Minister Fayyaz Ismail has started the work to determine a minimum wage in the Maldives.
He said that he has requested the president to establish a board to carry out the work to establish a minimum wage in the Maldives.
He said that he hoped this will make the workers happy once it is done. It has been 20 years since various administrations have been talking of setting a minimum wage. So far it has not been done and if the current administration is able to do that it will be a huge achievement for the workers.
Some people say that it is not possible because of the rich people in the tourism sector because resort owners want cheap labor.
