People started living in apartments developed by Tata quite recently. However, the windows in the buildings have started breaking due to heat. The then government gave land from prime locations in Male’ to Tata in addition to the lands given to develop the flats.
Government changed the agreements on some of the lands, however all these lands combined, it has the potential to generate millions in revenue for the government.
Lands owned by the state are usually given to private investors in a way which will maximize its benefit for the public. This is usually the practice in most of the countries. For instance one of the land plots given to Tata has the potential to generate a lot of money if an office complex is developed. Developing flats in that land for the rich might not be as beneficial. The government should reveal how much the state can expect to get as a return from that project.
Tata was also given one of the most expensive lagoons in Lhaviyani atoll. So far they have not done anything to develop the lagoon. Hence the state will not get anything in return from the lagoons. Now this issue has become a huge issue between India and Maldives.
Many agree that the agreement made with Tata resulted in a huge loss for Maldives.
