President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih have stated that his government did not sign any agreements which will benefit India other than the visa agreement. Speaking to the press he said that the visa agreement will benefit Maldives as well and it will solve the problems faced by Indian citizens in Maldives as well.
Speaking about the new visa agreement, Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid said that this was the most lenient India has with any country.
Under the new agreement Maldivians who want to visit India for tourism and medical purposes can get a 90-day visa in every six months. In addition, if those who visit for medicals under a tourist visa needs to extend their stay,
they can do it without returning to Maldives. Furthermore he said that those who need long term treatments can obtain a year long visa from the Indian embassy in India and it will be issued for two aids as well.
Furthermore he said that students in India can get multiple entry student visa and parents of underaged children will get a multiple entry dependent visa. In addition, Maldivian researchers can get visa for their kids, spouses and parents as well.
