No hope to attain justice with the current judges at the Criminal Court : Suood

Husnu Suood the president of the commission formed to investigate unresolved murders and disappearances have said that there is no hope of attaining justice with the current judges at the criminal court.

Speaking to the press at the President's Office Suood said that even if the commission investigates the cases and sends it to the court he has hope that the judges will judge justly. He said that the lawyers believe it as well.

"We do not believe that we can attain justice without reforming the judiciary. It will take a lot of work" said Suood.

Suood said that murder cases taking 3-4 years in the first instance courts is denial of justice. He said that it is questionable why the courts take so long to complete a case especially when the courts free the suspects as the trial gets prolonged.

"When this happens, it creates distrust towards the judiciary. Refusing to order remand on those who should be detained. Some people have been freed through the system. Some murder cases has been thrown out with the involvement of the judges and the administrative staffs of the judiciary. Gangs influence the judges sometimes. Sometimes gangs influence eyewitnesses as well. Some gangs have been used by the judges as security. We got info that gangs have a quota on appointments of judges. Some judges nominated by the gangs have been appointed as criminal court judges" said Suood.
