The deputy president of the World Bank for South Asia region Mr.Hartwig Schafer has arrived in the Maldives.
This is his first visit to the Maldives. He will meet government officials, private companies and civil society groups during the visit.
Before coming to Maldives Schafer stated that Maldives is a successful nation in attaining development. He noted that Maldives has graduated from the least developed countries and now has a GDP per capita of 10000 dollars. He described Maldives as a success story in attaining development.
Maldives has been working with the World Bank for 40 years. He said that World Bank will aid the Maldives to develop Maldives. He said that they will help in protecting the environment and in building institutional capacity.
