Civil Court judge Mohammed Haleem has resigned today. In his letter of resignation sent to the Judicial Service Commission, Haleem stated that he resigned to cooperate with the judicial program of the government.
According to Haleem, all the justices of the Maldivian courts should resign because they were appointed through questionable procedures.
He said that there are judges who were appointed through a suspicious procedure. He also said that some judges are suspected of having links with gangs and hence it is important for all the justices to resign for the judiciary to be truly reformed.
Haleem presided over controversial cases such as the case of Haveeru Online. Moreover he also made the record of issuing the most number of verdicts within a day.
Before being appointed as a justice, Haleem was active in some activities of the Jumhoory Party.
