JP’s leader Qasim Ibrahim have said that no matter how much some people try to change the system of government to a parliamentary system and plan to over throw President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, it cannot be done.
Speaking at a gathering held at JP’s head office last night, Qasim said that it can be seen that some elements within the MDP are trying to overthrow the president by changing the system of government.
Qasim said that he will remain united with President Solih as long as he governs in accordance with the laws and stated that there should be no barrier for him to govern. In addition he said that the people of Maldives will not allow power to be concentrated in the hands of one person.
He also noted that the parliament should be conducted in accordance with the laws and that it is what he has been advocating since 1984. Qasim said that if member of PNC submits a case to the parliament regarding the conduct of the Elections Commission, he will investigate it. Qasim noted that the law guarantees equal opportunities to everyone and hence that right cannot be undermined.
