Foreign Minister of the Maldives Abdullah Shahid has met with Ms Fountain Smith, the Deputy High Commissioner of Canada in the United Kingdom and discussed Maldives rejoining the Commonwealth.
Foreign Minister Shahid is in the UK on an official visit and will meet high level officials of the British government and officials of the secretariat of the Commonwealth.
Rejoining the Commonwealth is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih. During the first week of his administration the cabinet decided to rejoin the Commonwealth.
Maldives left the Commonwealth during former President Yameen’s administration.
