MP Faaris Maumoon has announced that he intends to contest for Mahchan Goalhi North constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
At the moment Faaris Maumoon is the MP for Dhiggaru constituency. Faaris won the seat in a byelection held after the MP for Dhiggaru Mohammed Nazim lost his seat following a criminal conviction. The Supreme Court has however overturned the ruling now. Nazim will be running for the same seat again as an independent candidate this time.
Mahchan Goalhi North constituency was represented by Defence Minister Mariya Didi until she assumed the position in November. Since then the seat has been vacant.
